How we score
Each (county, vertical) gets a score 0–100. The formula combines:
- Service shortage — attorneys / CPAs per 10k residents (lower = more opportunity)
- Broadband availability — share of households with 25/3+ Mbps
- Business formation — new LLCs per 1k residents per year
- Affordability — median household income, peaks in $40k–$120k band
Weights vary per vertical because each serves a different need. Compound deserts (low broadband AND low service density) are flagged distinctly — neither traditional in-person nor digital solutions reach those counties well, and we don't pretend we can.
Phase 1B (Beta): population, income, age, broadband %, business-formation rate, and urban/rural code are real (US Census ACS + Census BDS + USDA RUCC 2023, all free public sources). Attorney/CPA density, restaurant chain share, tourism, Muslim population density, and abattoir proximity are synthetic placeholders for now — replaced with real ABA, AICPA, Pew Research, and USDA FSIS data in subsequent rollouts.
